Maine event features lobster-eating contest
August 21, 2013Valley View Casino & Hotel will be hosting the Maine Event for the second year on Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. in the casino's event center.
A speed-eating contest will pit 12 competitors head-tohead.
Whoever finishes the lobster feast fastest or eats the most in twenty minutes will earn the title of the 2nd Annual Maine Event champion and will be awarded free Maine Lobster buffets for five years.
"Last year, the Maine Event was a huge success and this year, we look forward to seeing our guests compete, cheer on their friends and enjoy all of the endless Maine lobster all over again," said Bruce Howard, general manager of the casino.
The lobster feast will consist of more than 8 pounds of food — four pounds of succulent Maine lobster, a pound and a half of hearty mashed potatoes, half a pound each of golden corn, crisp coleslaw and warm dinner rolls, plus a sweet apple cobbler to top it all off.
Contestants will have to eat the entire spread as quickly as possible in order to be crowned the victor and the recipient of 5 years of free Maine lobster buffets. Last year's winner finished the feast in just under 6 minutes.
"We have created a meal made with fresh local ingredients and featuring guest favorites from our worldfamous lobster buffet," said Ashley Archer, executive chef at the casino.
