"Rocks in My Head"

Part 1

As I may have mentioned, I love big rocks! Prior to moving to Valley Center, we lived in Escondido for ten years on very flat land with no rocks. Then, last year, we moved here to the house God picked out for us. And guess what this house has? If you guessed "big rocks" you would be wrong. It has "BIG ROCKS" all around and I love it! In fact, our front yard faces a massive mountain of rock that is just beautiful. (Isn't God awesome?!)

Now, it stands to reason, since I am surrounded by rocks, that when I go to dig a hole to plant something, I wind up running into…rocks. When you're trying to dig up a rock, you often can't tell how big that rock is until you really put some effort into it. You have to dig all around the sides, going at it from different angles. Sometimes, you still can't tell how big it is. But, after putting so much effort into it, you really hate to give up on that rock! You think, maybe a little more digging, a little more prying… But, sometimes, you just have to accept the fact that the rock is just too big and is there to stay!

So I was thinking…..

People can be like rocks. You try to reach them, to pry them out of their complacency, and you just can't do it. You try to dig them out of their misery, but they won't be budged, they are immovable. You can wear yourself out in the process and gain nothing… except the knowledge that you tried your best. I can be pretty hardheaded and hate to give up. But, sometimes, there just comes a time when you have to move on to another place to dig and plant your offering. Maybe later, someone will come along who can move that rock, but it isn't you, and that's okay.

Instead of getting discouraged by the immovable rocks in our lives, we need to stay focused on the most important rock, the Rock of our Salvation. That's where we'll find our joy.

"Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces." Matthew 7:6

O come, let us sing for joy to the LORD, Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is a great God and a great King above all gods, in whose hand are the depths of the earth, the peaks of the mountains are His also. Psalm 95:1-4
