Matthew Owensby led the VC Symphony Orchestra as conductor in their Oct. 26 Halloween concert at the library. The symphony performed themes from costume-inspiring movies like Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as a wide range of spooky classical music. Owensby even stepped in to play violin himself on Danse Macabre, a piece by Camille Saint Saens rumored to have the power to raise skeletons. Children had the opportunity to try out different instruments prior to the concert, and several musicians talked about the history of their instrument and gave brief demonstrations. The performance concluded with a rousing Western medley, comprised of themes from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, The Magnificent Seven, and Hang 'em High.
