Jaguars post strong finishes in cross-country Mt. Carmel Octoberfest
October 16, 2013Valley Center's cross-country teams put together another strong run in the Mt. Carmel Octoberfest meet on Friday.
The Jaguars excelled in both team scores and individual results, as the junior varsity and freshmen boys teams were both victorious, while the boys varsity team finished second overall.
Bannon Greer led the varsity boys with a second-place finish, just one second behind race winner Derek Mortob of Mt. Carmel. Meanwhile, Rod Rodriguez was fifth, Fernando Ramierez was eighth, Nick Mendoza was ninth and Thomas Stehly was 13th.
For the JV boys, AJ Monzon and Jonathan Glassell finished one-two for the second week in a row, while Charles Morningstar was seventh, Daniel Zorrilla was tenth and Cristian Alvarez was 13th.
And in the frosh boys race, Antonio Ruiz placed third, Greg Murphy was sixth, Chris Allen was ninth, Henry Kraus was tenth and Jonathan Baltazar was 11th, as the team raced extremely well to earn a one-point victory.
For the girls varsity team, April Lackpour raced well to finish in 11th place, while Helen Lopez was 15th and Danielle Pettit was 20th.
Joya Manjur was the top JV finisher in 27th place.
Up next for the Jaguars is the SoCal Invite at Guajome Park on Saturday at 8:30 a.m., followed by the annual Jaguar Invite at Kit Carson Park next Friday at 2 p.m.
