Lilac Road repaving nears completion
March 26, 2014Repaving road work on Lilac Road should be entirely finished by April 4. A source of delays for commuters in recent weeks, the final project will be a smoother, safer thoroughfare into Valley Center.
"We're done tearing stuff up," said John Marlatt, project manager with ABC Construction. "It's all there but we just have to re-stripe it."
The project has proceeded on schedule so far since beginning Feb 12, sometimes causing delays in excess of 20 minutes. There may still be some delays on March 28 and 31 as crews finish putting on the final touches, but that should be the end of traffic hold-ups related to the repaving.
"Everything's done paving-wise," said Marlatt. "We won't be holding you up much more."
Marlatt estimates it will be between 10 and 15 years before the same sort of repaving work will have to happen again on the road.
"This new road will be a rubber mix which gives a longer life expectancy out of the road. It should last a minimum of 15 years," said Marlatt. "It cuts down on noise pollution and it's designed for the water to run through it so it cuts down on hydroplaning. It will make the roads safer for everyone."
ABC Construction Co. is working on the project, which involves patching, grinding, paving and striping on Lilac Road between Valley Center Road and Old Castle Road.
