A benefit Art Sale and Concert for Craig and Kathy Nyberg will be held Saturday, April 12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Maxine Theater located at the Valley Center High School. The art sale and silent auction will begin at 1 p.m. The concert will start at 2 p.m. The benefit is sponsored by the Valley Center Art Association (VCAA).

The Nybergs are recovering from serious injuries sustained when their car was struck head on by another vehicle. On January 3 a car traveling in the oncoming lane of traffic on highway 56, crossed into the Nyberg's lane of traffic and struck their car. The Nybergs were both seriously injured. Kathy Nyberg, an 18 year third grade teacher at VC Elementary School, suffered over 25 broken bones.

"This is an opportunity for Valley Center to support a family that has endured a terrible accident," said Ed LaBrado, Treasurer of the VCAA. "VCAA members hope the benefit will contribute enough funding to help cover living expenses through the end of 2014."

Art Association members have donated over 30 sketches, framed paintings, sculpture, wood carvings, gourds and jewelry to be offered for sale. Some items will be sold at silent auction. Valley Center artist and teacher Barbara Graham will offer commissioned portraits of people and animals for a donation to the Nyberg family. All proceeds from sales will go to the Nyberg family.

Musical entertainment will be offered by groups who have donated performances to the benefit. At 2 p.m. the Bourbon Street Jazz Band will take the stage to perform traditional 1920's style New Orleans Jazz. The jazz group is comprised of six professional musicians who performed for six years at the Metaphor Café and at other venues in North San Diego County.

At 3 p.m., the Valley Center Symphony, a group of about 20 VC musicians, will perform a selection of music including, "Carmen Suite No.1" and "Rhapsody in Blue," according to conductor Matt Owensby. The Valley Center orchestra has been the pit orchestra for several Valley Center musicals including "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Annie Get Your Gun."

There will be no charge for entrance to the art sale or participating in the silent auction. A donation is requested from those attending the musical performances.

For more information, or to donate art for sale at the benefit, please contact Barbara Graham at: 760-749-2923 or Marita Saxton at: 760-703-4821.
