VC fireworks seeks sponsors, hold first meeting

April 02, 2014
The Valley Center Fireworks Committee is in search of presenting and logistical sponsors. The committee is considering both the high school and middle school as two viable locations for the fireworks display this year.

"We are desperately seeking sponsors and vetting two sites," said Kelly Crews, President of Valley Center Fireworks.

In fact, the suggestion to consider the Middle School as a possible location was presented at the first fireworks meeting.

"Our first meeting was incredible," said Crews. "We have effective people helping us put this together.

Supervisor of San Diego County, Bill Horn sent a letter delineating what needed to be done.

"And with the help of the City of Murrieta we learned that it's easier than ever to get our permits," said Crews.

Also at the meeting, it was determined that parents and teachers should be involved with the children's play areas. This year, the inflatables will be presented by the Parents Teachers Association. The committee also decided there will be live music and they are actively looking for a band. Food is available for the event, but those attending are welcome to bring their own refreshments. Event-goers are encouraged to bring flashlights and chairs. Because the fireworks will be held at one of the schools, smoking, firearms, and alcohol is prohibited. Pets of any kind are not allowed.

Although both locations have positive and negative considerations, there is approval from the School District and Fire Marshal for each possible site.

"We have located a number of sites in Valley Center that will meet the fire code required for the Fourth of July Fireworks which includes the Middle School. We have looked at a half-dozen locations for alternative and viable possibilities," said George E. Lucas,Sr, Battalion Chief and Fire Marshal for the Fire Protection District of Valley Center.

In previous years, the fireworks display was held at the Community Center after the High School installed artificial turf on the football field.

"We're very excited. We've got the team together," said Crews. "This year will be the greatest show ever – as long as we get our sponsors. The location is nailed down. It will be one or the other."
