No sponsors, no Fourth of July fireworks
April 16, 2014Time is running out for sponsors to step forward in support of the Valley Center fireworks for the Fourth of July. The deadline for registering as a presenting or logistical sponsor is April 25.
"There is a lot of work to be done," said Kelly Crews, President of Valley Center Fireworks. "If we don't get a sponsor by April 25, the fireworks show and event will be canceled."
Both the Fireworks Committee and the Fire Marshal are completing extensive paperwork necessary for the permit.
The Valley Center Fourth of July fireworks display has been a tradition for the past 14 years with only two cancellations of the show during the long-running presentation.
"It is both a blessing and a privilege," said Crews. "Even with the help of a team of incredible people, it still takes so much of my time."
For the past years, Crews has worked tirelessly bringing the fireworks to Valley Center.
"If I am unable to get the sponsor for this year, then this will be my last year," said Crews. "I have enjoyed doing the fireworks celebration over the last 14 years in Valley Center and have enjoyed working with the people and sponsors to bring this event to the community."
Each year more and more work is required, Crews said. The difficulties for arranging the fireworks display gets larger every year with so much to accomplish such as preparing over 150 pages of sequel documents. In addition, the event must be promoted and advertised beforehand for safety regulations.
"This is an incredible event which has been ongoing the past 14 years in Valley Center," said Crews. "Our team is small, but this is a big, gigantic family day. As far as everyone's time, this is like Christmas or Thanksgiving. It's like going to church on Christmas Eve."
If the fireworks don't take place this year, not only will Valley Center residents miss this longstanding tradition, but it will affect others as well.
"Our event draws people from all over, not just Valley Center," said Crews.
Locations for the fireworks are being vetted and permits are being processed.
"We have an incredible team in place," said Crews. "The Explorers, Sheriff volunteers, and many others are hard at work to make it happen, but without a sponsor, we cannot move forward."
