Rotarians organize E-waste collection this Saturday

April 23, 2014
The Rotary Club of Valley Center will be hosting an electronic waste and document shredding event on April 26 in the parking lot of Valley Center Elementary School. Working in cooperation with the Interact Club from Valley Center High School — a like-minded service organization — all proceeds from the event will go toward future service projects at VCHS.

"What it involves is electronic waste that you can't really dispose of in the regular garbage, we're collecting that," said Greg Carlson, VC Rotary's director of community services. "That would include things like TVs, computers, appliances, radios, any dry cell batteries, phones, cables, wires, anything you can think of electronic. The exceptions are air conditioning and freezer/refrigerators."

Light bulbs and wet cell batteries will also not be accepted at the E-waste event, which will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. There is no charge to drop off electronic waste.

"We'll also be doing free document shredding," said Carlson. "We're going to have a shredding truck on site. You can bring as much shredding as you want. The first two banker's boxes worth are free, and then we're asking for a donation of five bucks for each additional box beyond that."

E-World Recycling is the company that will be hosting the event. Last year Valley Center Rotary raised nearly $1,000 at their E-waste collection.

The Rotary Club of Valley Center meets every Monday at noon at the community hall. For more information, visit
