Recent resignations have created two vacancies on the Valley Center Community Planning Group. Applications for the two vacant seats (#3 and #14) should be submitted to Hans Britsch, Chairperson of the Nominations Committee no later than 7 p.m. on June 4. Nomination by the Planning Group will be at the July 14 VCCPG Meeting, subject to appointment to the vacancies by the Board of Supervisors, both for the remaining balance of the 4-year terms of the resigning members, expiring January 9, 2017 (seat #3) and January 12, 2015 (seat #14). Applicants must be 18 years of age, and registered voters, and residents of the Valley Center Planning Area.

GUIDED HIKE TO HELLHOLE CANYON PRESERVE
Join Valley Center Trails on May 18 at 8 a.m. for a guided hike to Hellhole Canyon Preserve. Friends of Hellhole Canyon president Joaquin Aganza will guide this hike which includes some steep sections and will have little shade. Wear a hat and sunscreen and bring water for this hike that will last approximately one and a half hours. Escondido Public Library's Literacy and Lifelong Learning Division is partnering with Goodwill Industries to host a Job Fair on Wednesday, May 28,2014 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. in the Library's Turrentine Room. Escondido Public Library is located at 239 South Kalmia Street in Escondido. The Job Fair is open to the general public. Job seekers should bring their resume and will have the opportunity to meet more than two dozen potential employers with open positions that range from entry through professional levels. Participating employers will represent an array of industries and fields including: hospitality, healthcare, education, government, law enforcement, high tech, retail, and manufacturing. PANELISTS NEEDED FOR VCHS'S "SENIOR INTERVIEW DAYS"
Would you like to see what is expected of Valley Center High School Seniors? This is your chance! VCHS is seeking community panelists for "Senior Presentation Days" on May 28 – 29 from 7:30 a.m. – 2:07 p.m. on campus. Seniors will present their portfolios which include essays on post secondary goals, writing reflections, a PowerPoint presentation on their career choice and other items. Each presentation will last 10-12 minutes. Panelists will evaluate presentations using a grading rubric. A continental breakfast and complimentary lunch will be provided to all panelists. Dr. David Bridgeman, co-owner and Head Wine Maker of 2 Plank Vineyards will be discussing the benefits of owning your own vineyard, vineyard installation and maintenance during a Free Vineyard Seminar on Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Grangettos Valley Center Store located at 29219 Juba Road in Valley Center. Bridgeman will also discuss grape varieties for the San Diego area, cost of installation, water requirements, vineyard design and the San Diego Tiered Winery ordinance. Lilac School's FAVE (Fine Arts Volunteer Educators) Art program is planning its second FAVE Family Art Night scheduled for Friday, May 16. The event will feature live music, food, a large student art exhibit, an auction of class projects, and guest artists. Local artists are invited to share their talents with students during the event which is open to the community. FAVE is also looking for donations for the silent auction to be held during the event. The Third annual Valley Center Music Festival will be held at Bates Nut Farm on Saturday, June 7 from noon – 9:30 p.m. Free Admission and Parking, Kansas City BBQ Cook-off, 10 Professional Bands on 3 Stages, Valley Center Middle and High School Jazz Bands, Beer and Wine Garden, Door Prizes, Face Painting, Silent Auction and more! Proceeds benefit the Valley Center / Pauma Music Boosters. This year the event will expand with a Kansas City BBQ cook-off in addition to twelve bands on three stages, a beer and wind garden, door prizes, food, face-painting and a silent auction. COMMUNITY YARD SALE
Local families and organizations are invited to sign up to participate in the Valley Center Community Yard Sale at Bates Nut Farm. The sale will be held Saturday, June 7 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and will feature household items, antiques, collectibles, books, furniture, clothing, knick-knacks, electronics, and many other treasures.

BILINGUAL BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP TO MEET
Escondido Public Library's bilingual book discussion group, will meet on Saturday, May 31, from 3:30 – 4:45 p.m. in the Library's Board Room. Author and journalist, Miriam Ruvinskis, will lead the discussion in both English and Spanish. El castillo de cristal / The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls is the selected book for May. Rincón Literario meets regularly on the last Saturday of the month to explore literature published in English and Spanish. In June, readers will discuss La llave de Sarah / Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. This program is free and open to the public. A week-long drama camp will be held at Community Lutheran Church on East Valley Parkway in Escondido June 23 – 27 from 9 a.m. – noon. The camp will focus on several important theater arts categories including pantomime, improvisation, blocking, script writing and choreography. Students will participate in a variety of acting activities unique to this camp, all creating a pathway to professional acting. Limited registration is now open for children ages 5 – 18 years of age. Dr. Gregory Quist, President of the Board of Directors for the Rincon del Diablo Water Municipal Water District, will be the guest speaker for the Escondido Republican Club's (TERC) meeting on Monday, May 19. Quist will explain the role that the Rincon Water District plays in providing the water supply for the Greater Escondido Valley. The meeting will be held at the Cocina del Charro restaurant located at 890 West Valley Parkway in Escondido.
Check-in begins at 11:30 a.m. with the buffet luncheon service starting at 11:45 AM, and the meeting beginning promptly at noon and concluding at 1 p.m. Reservations are required and the cost is $14 per person.
