Rattlesnake expert and beloved local physician, Dr. Roy Johnson, will present a lecture on rattlesnakes, to take place at the VC library on Sat. June 28 at 9:30 a.m. hosted by the Friends of Hellhole Canyon. This event is free to the public, but get there early as this highly popular lecture was standing room only the last time Dr Johnson presented this informative talk.


Valley Center Art Association (VCAA) will sponsor a guest art instructor this June to provide art instruction in pastels. The adult classes will be held in the Seminar Room at the Valley Center Library. Classes are open to the public subject to space availability. There is no cost to attend the classes and art supplies will be provided. Pastel artist Alicia Sotherland will teach a class in pastels Saturday, June 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. This class is limited to 12 students. Prior registration is required for both classes. Contact Ed Labrado at (760) 751-4190 to register for the class. VCAA member, Barbara Graham, teaches a weekly adult oil painting class each Thursday from 10 am to 1 pm in the Seminar Room of the Valley Center Library. The limited availability, VCAA sponsored classes, are free. For more information, class availability and registration contact Barbara Graham at (760) 749-2923.


During the summer the District Office and Business Office will be closed on the following Friday's: June 20, June 27, July 4, July 11, July 18 and July 25.  The offices will be open regular business hours 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday thru Thursday.


Escondido Public Library's Summer Reading Clubs began Monday, June 23 and runs through August 2, 2014. This year's theme is "Paws to Read," encouraging book and animal-lovers of all ages to "pause," read, and discuss what they've read with others. The Library's Adult Summer Reading Club offers the opportunity to record books read and share recommendations and reviews with others. As part of the Adult summer reading program two tutorials on how to use eReaders to download free library eBooks. On Monday, June 23 "A Kindle Safari will teach Kindle owners how to access the library's eBooks collection. On Tuesday, July 15, "Train your tablet for eBooks" will teach those who own iPads, Android and Window tablets how to access the collection. Adults can join by registering in-person at the Library Information Desk or online through July 19 by visiting Participants who submit book reviews will be eligible for prizes.
