April 30, 2014What would it be like to live in a town cursed with stupidity?
This week marks the opening of the Spring Drama production of Neil Simon's Fools. On May 1, 2, and 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Maxine theatre, you can venture off into the town of Kulyenchikov.
It is set in 1890's Russia and depicts the struggle that Leon Tolchinsky faces when he is hired to educate Sophia Zubritsky. Leon learns about the curse that the Yousekevich family has placed on the town because Sophia refused his romantic advances. Leon is determined to break the curse and has to battle it out with Count Gregor Yousekevich. Watch as Leon struggles to overcome the stupidity of the town to connect with his true love.
The play stars sophomore Dade Nelson who says, "It has been great working with so many close friends and getting to know some people I never really got to talk to."
"This play has been an absolute hoot, and we can barely stop laughing as we try to make it funnier," giggles Sabrina Munaco, who plays the evil Count.
The play brings back many favorites from last semester's production such as Ivan Quezada, Andreas Rüstche, Miguel Mendiola, Kelly Ryback, and Madison Wagner.
Another all-time favorite, JoAnna Brown, said "Fools is a hilarious show that took hard work and dedication. I'm glad to be a part of it!"
Junior Caitlin Appolito (who is double cast as Sophia with Alexandra Baum) shares, "Fools was an exciting and new experience for me. I'm glad to be playing Sophia in the show, and I can't wait for the performances."
The show has two seniors in its cast: JoAnna Brown and Ivan Quezada. They will be taking their final bows on May 3.
I don't know about you, but I hope to see you Jags in the front row!
