After finishing in the top ten in CIF last season, both the boys and girls varsity cross-country teams have an even better finish in their sights this year.

The Jaguars lost a handful of seniors to graduation, including Kaylee Hudson and Alex Hall for the girls and Travis Robey, Genaro Rodriguez, Alex Sanchez and Trevor Ryback for the boys.

But the Lady Jaguars boast a stable of experienced runners returning for 2013, including sophomore Helen Lopez, who finished fourth in the Valley League last year and was 25th in the CIF meet. She will be joined by juniors Riley McCarrick and Hailie Santana, along with senior Julia Stone, as the top returning runners.

For the boys, Fernando Ramirez put together a very strong finish to 2012, taking seventh in the league meet, ninth in the CIF meet and 76th in the state competition. Now a senior, Ramirez is joined by fellow seniors Bannon Greer and Sam McCuskey, along with sophomore Rod Rodriguez, as the leading runners to return.

Both Jaguar teams also have some strong runners joining the team this year, including seniors Thomas Stehly, Nick Mendoza and April Lackpour, as well as sophomores Hannah Boyd and Danielle Pettit.

"With a good summer of conditioning the girls can challenge for both a league and CIF title with a shot at qualifying for the state meet," says head coach Mike Cummings. "For the boys, the talent is there. They should challenge for both league and CIF titles as well as a high finish at state."
