New head coach hopes to lead young Lady Jags volleyball team back to post-season

August 07, 2013
The Va l l e y Center varsity girls volleyball program is known for its consistent levels of success throughout school history. Last season, the Lady Jags continued that legacy with another trip to the CIF Division II playoffs, where they advanced to the second round with a win over Brawley before falling to Cathedral Catholic.

The 2012 team overcame the loss of seven very talented seniors but still put together an outstanding season.

This year, the Lady Jaguars will once again face an uphill climb with the loss of five seniors — Melina Heredia, Vanessa Heredia, Jordan McFarland, Megan Stehly and Julie Wagner — in order to once again see the post-season. And the team will have to make a playoff run with a new head coach, Bill Dunckel, who has coached baseball and softball at the varsity level for VCHS, as well as coaching volleyball for younger age groups.

Coach Dunckel's returning players include seniors Jennifer Casillas, Savanna Reilly, Amber Comes and Jasmine Contreras, along with juniors Brienna Dunckel and Susanna Henderson.

But with a history of success to build upon, as well as a solid foundation of talented, fundamentally-sound players who can put together another exciting season.
