VC local Donna Block helps Los Angeles bid farewell to the X Games

Donna Block, Bob Burnquist
August 14, 2013
There were a lot of sad faces this year at X Games Los Angeles, for after its 11-year run in Los Angeles, it will be leaving for Austin, Texas for 2014. But I got to meet some athletes with happy, medal-winning faces.

Bob Burnquist has the most medals in X Games history, including the Skateboard Big Air bronze he won Thursday night at Irwindale. His total is now 26 X Game medals. I asked, where does he keep all those medals? He just humbly said they are in a corner in my home office.

Donna Block, Bucky Lasek
Bucky Lasek, at age 40, competed against Tom Schaar (age 13), Mitchie Brusco (16) and Jono Schwan (16), all young enough to be his kids.

He's the best in the sport today and possibly of all time.

Donna Block, Nate Adams
"He proved that again Saturday, winning his fourth straight gold medal at the X Games in Los Angeles.

At an age when many men are going through crises, Lasek is at the peak of his career and showing no signs of slowing down. He won in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil, this April after a nine-year gold-medal drought in the event, and on Saturday became the first ever to four-peat.

Bucky is also competing against my brother Ken Block in the GRC series, though neither one of them won medals at this year's X Games in Los Angeles.

I also got to sit down with Nate Adams, who lives in nearby Temecula after winning his bronze medal in Moto X Freestyle at the Staples Center. He was really happy with his bronze but even happier with his gold medal he won in Moto X Speed and Style.
