VC girls tennis team splits first two matches
September 10, 2013Valley Center's varsity girls tennis team is off to a solid start with a win and a loss in the first two matches of the season.
The Lady Jaguars played Mt. Carmel in the season opener and suffered a 15–3 loss.
The first doubles team of Lexi Striler and Kaitlyn Hillard provided two of the Lady Jags' points with a 6–1 win in second doubles and a 6–3 win in third doubles, while second doubles team Olivia Spencer and Madison Sanders won their third doubles match 7–5.
But despite the rough opener, the Lady Jaguars bounced back against El Camino to take a 10–8 victory.
Both of the top two doubles teams swept their opponents, as Spencer and Sanders won three matches in first doubles (6–1, 6–1, 6–1) and Striler and Hillard swept the field in second doubles (6–3, 6–0, 6–0). The third doubles team of Nicole Russell and Delaney Hegle won once in three matches (1–6, 3–6, 6–0).
In singles play, Kristina Mansueto won twice in first singles (6–0, 6–1, 4–6) and Brook Clark won once in third singles (7–5, 1–6, 0–6). In second singles, Rylee Lawson played the first match and lost 4–6 before Natalie Zorilla played the final two and lost 1–6, 1–6.
Valley Center plays again today at Vista at 3:15 p.m. before the next game at San Marcos next Thursday at 3:15 p.m.
