VC boys water polo team wins three in a row, including two in Fall Classic Tournament

Valley Center's varsity boys water polo team racked up score after score this week in taking three consecutive wins.

The Jaguars outscored their opponents 44–16 in the three games and got the annual Fall Classic Tournament started with an impressive pair of wins.

The Jags began the week at Clairemont on Thursday and scored early and often in taking a 16–4 victory.

Valley Center had a solid start scoring four goals, holding Clairemont scoreless after the first. The Jags followed it up by scoring six more goals in the second and allowing one to lead 10–1 at half.

Clairemont scored two goals in the third while the Jags put away three to lead 13–3. The Jags scored three more goals in the fourth and allowing one to finish off the win.

"The guys started off solid and played good team defense to earn twenty-four steals as a team," said head coach Kyle Kline.

Paul Schaner had a big game with seven goals, one assist, six steals, and scored two exclusions. Luke Marshall scored two goals, four assists, two steals, and one exclusion. Jared Schaner played well with two goals, two assists, two steals. Brock Daugherty had one goal, one assist, and one steal. Jared Trok had one goal, three steals, and one exclusion. David Trok had one goal, one assist, two steals. Tim Sheehy ad one goal, two assists, three steals, and scored one penalty shot. Nathan Leader had one goal and one exclusion. Ryan Semon had two assists and one steal. Jacob Banner had one assist, and two steals. Will Russell had one steal. Gavin Marcon had a solid game with nine goal saves and one steal.

On Monday, the Jaguars kicked off play in the Fall Classic Tournament with a pair of big wins.

The first game was against Point Loma and solid defense early in the game paved the way for a 13–8 win.

The Jags had a bit of a slow start scoring two goals and allowing none. They picked it up in the second scoring five goals and allowing one to lead 7–1 at half. VC was able to follow that quarter up with another five goals, while allowing two to lead 12–3 heading into the fourth. Point Loma scored five goals in the fourth with the Jags scoring one, giving the Jags the win.

"The guys played solid defense in the first quarter and really picked up their offense in the second and third to control the game," Coach Kline said.

Luke Marshall had a solid game with four goals, four steals, and one exclusion. David Trok played well with two goals, one assist, three steals. Paul Schaner played well with two goals, two steals, and one penalty shot. Brock Daugherty played well with two goals, one assist, two steals. Tim Sheehy had one goal, one assist, three steals, and one block. Tony Oreb had one goal. Gavin Marcon had four goal saves, one assist, and two steals.

The Jaguars' second game was against San Dieguito and scored at a torrid pace to bring home a 15–4 win.

The Jags had a solid start scoring five goals and allowing none. VC followed it up scoring six goals in the second and allowing three to lead 11–3 at half. Both teams scored one goal in the third giving the Jags a 12–4 advantage heading into the fourth. The Jags scored three more goals in the fourth to cruise to the win.

"I'm really pleased with the way the guys played in this game," said Coach Kline. "They started out well and controlled the tempo of the game."

Nathan Leader had two assists and one steal. Tony Oreb had one assist. Ryan Semon had one assist. Jacob Banner had two steals. Jared Trok had one block. Gavin Marcon had ten goal saves and two assists.

The Jags will continue play in the Fall Classic this Friday at Grossmont at 6 p.m.
