Greer takes first again as cross-country teams run well in first league meet
October 07, 2013The Valley Center cross-country teams traveled to Guajome Park in Vista to compete in their first league competition of the year on Friday, and brought home another round of great finishes.
The Jaguars raced well, winning the boys JV race and finishing second in both the varsity girls race and the varsity boys race.
Bannon Greer continued his winning ways by placing first in the boys varsity race, while Rod Rodriguez placed eighth and Fernando Ramirez was tenth. Thomas Stehly had his best race of the year to place 15th, while Nick Mendoza was 18th and Austin Reser improved his time and finished in 21st place.
The girls varsity team was led by the fifth place finish of April Lackpour and the sixth place finish of Helen Lopez. Meanwhile, Riley McCarrick was 13th, Danielle Pettit was 14th, and Delaney Cummings finished in 14th place.
In the last race of the day, the boys JV team raced to victory behind the first place finish of AJ Monzon and the second place finish of Jonathan Glassell. Also for the Jags, Daniel Zorrilla was fourth, Charles Morningstar was fifth, Chris Allen finished in ninth and Cristian Alvarez finished in tenth place.
For the girls JV team, Casey Whiteley was the top finisher in 13th, while Joya Manjur was 16th and Monique Mendoza was 17th overall.
The next meet for the Jaguars comes on Friday as they travel to Mt. Carmel for the Cross-League Meet.
