Two more wins have VC field hockey team looking good as the season winds down
November 07, 2013With the regular season quickly coming to an end, the Valley Center varsity field hockey team has been playing at its best.
The Lady Jaguars have only lost once in their last seven games and added another pair of wins this week to make a strong push toward the playoffs. Since a 6–0 loss to San Pasqual on Oct. 18, the Lady Jags have now won four in a row, including wins over Mission Hills and Escondido this week.
Last Tuesday, the Lady Jaguars hosted Mission Hills and pulled out a 3–1 win, then the following day they traveled to Escondido for a 3–0 win over the Lady Cougars. Delaney Cummings scored twice and Savanna Fiehler added a goal in the win at Escondido, while Kaylin Ryan and Becca Vizcarra each had an assist in the win. In net, Bailey Sanders and Bailey Gilmore combined to make seven saves and get the shutout.
On the season, Cummings leads the team with 13 goals and ten assists, while Emily Hutchinson had ten goals and two assists, Becca Vizcarra has six goals and nine assists, Fiehler has five goals and three assists and Bianka Perez has five goals.
Sanders has made 80 saves in 21 games, while Gilmore has made 15 saves in seven games played.
After hosting San Pasqual in a rematch on Wednesday, the Lady Jaguars have two more games left in the regular season. They host San Marcos on Friday at 3 p.m. before playing at Del Norte next Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.
