A pair of VCHS boys water polo players participated in the Senior All–Star Game put on by the San Diego Aquatic Council that took place Dec. 13 at Brian Bent Memorial Aquatics Complex at Coronado High School.

Seniors are nominated by their coaches and then voted on to participate in the annual game. This year, Valley Center players Luke Marshall and goalie Gavin Marcon earned spots on the team and had a solid showing in the game.

The three divisions are split up into two divisions. They are the "small campus" schools, and the "large campus" schools. Being a Division III team, the Valley Center players were part of the "small campus" team.

The large campus team took an early 3–0 lead in the first few minutes of the game with the small campus team catching back up with a goal from Luke Marshall to beat the buzzer at the end of the first quarter giving the large campus team a 3–2 lead after the first. Both teams traded goals throughout the rest of the game with the small campus team taking the lead and carrying it into the fourth quarter.

Gavin Marcon had a huge second half with some key blocks including a penalty shot in the last three minutes of the game. The large campus team was trailing by one goal late in the fourth and had three opportunities to tie the game, but Gavin Marcon came up huge in the goal stopping all three shots including the final shot of the game by the large campus team with a six-on-five situation.

The large campus team took their final shot with less than 15 seconds to play, but Marcon made the block and the small campus team was able to run out the clock to take a 12–11 win.

This game is a fundraiser for the Aquatic Council and is a great opportunity for the top players in the county to play together.

Luke Marshall had a great game with one goal, one block, three steals, and won two sprints. Gavin Marcon had a great game with ten goal saves in the second half, blocking a penalty shot, and coming up with the game saving block at the end. The goalie from Coronado played the first half of the game with Gavin playing the second half. Nine goals were given up in the first half, while Gavin gave up only two goals giving the small campus team the edge for the win.
