The Lady Jags battle for the ball under their own ball

After picking up the first win of the season last week, the Valley Center varsity girls basketball team opened play in the Aztec Holiday Classic Tournament this week with a tough loss.

The Lady Jaguars pulled out to an early lead against Patrick Henry in the opener, but the Lady Patriots stormed back and came away with a 56–31 win.

The Lady Jags were shooting very well in the first quarter, as Perris Toedt and Hannah Keller helped their team hold a slim lead in the first quarter.

But Patrick Henry methodically wore down the Lady Jaguar defense and went on a 10–3 scoring run to close out the first quarter. The Lady Patriots didn't look back and held a ten-point lead at halftime before cruising through the second half to take the big win.

The Lady Jaguars wrapped up the Aztec Holiday Classic Tournament earlier this week and return to action today with a pair of games in the Wolverine Shootout at Westview High School. They continue the Wolverine Shootout with two more games on Friday and one more on Saturday before returning home to face El Camino on Jan. 17 at 7 p.m.
