The Valley Center girls Under 13 Hurricanes recently wrapped up their 2013–14 season with a second-place finish in the Poway Indoor League Tournament GU14 bracket.

The Hurricanes played Arsenal Premier GU14 from 4-S Ranch and went to the semifinals to defeat the Poway Vaqueros AA-A GU14 team 9–5 behind the strong offensive play of Hannah Schaner and Hannah Cummings, and ever more aggressive defense of Rachel Utter, Rebecca Cummings, Soleil Escalante and Ava Downey.

After playing back-to-back games, the Lady Hurricanes advanced to the finals to face the Poway Vaqueros GU14 Premier team. Valley Center again jumped on top with goals by Schaner and Cummings, but the first half ended with Hurricanes down 6–5. Unfortunately fatigue set in and the Hurricanes were not able to rally back and eventually lost 11–5.

"The coaches were very pleased on how the team progressed over the course of the season," said head coach Fred Downey. "We are the underdogs in every game we play, with the heart of the players we find a way to compete in virtually every game we are in."
