The Valley Center varsity girls water polo team took on Mission Bay in the first round of the Division III CIF playoffs at Del Norte High School last Wednesday and couldn't overcome a slow start in taking a 10–5 loss.

The Lady Jaguars gave up three goals to Mission Bay in the first quarter, but couldn't answer with a goal of their own. They got the breakthrough in the second and had three goals in the period, but the Lady Buccaneers scored three more times to lead 6–3 at halftime.

Mission Bay extended the lead to 8–4 heading into the fourth quarter, and sealed the win with two more goals scored and one more allowed.

"The girls tried hard but were unable to get some rhythm going on offense," said head coach Kyle Kline. "We struggled with our shots and some turnovers cost us."

Casia Morrison had two goals, one assist, four steals, and three exclusions. April Lackpour had two goals, one steal. Samantha Gonzalez had one goal. Charlotte McCarick had one steal. Stephanie McCaulley had two steals. Makaila Keeley had six goal saves and one steal.
