VC track teams fall in close meet with San Pasqual

March 26, 2014The Valley Center varsity track and field teams stayed busy last week with a pair of meets, as the Jaguars hosted San Pasqual for a dual meet on Thursday before taking part in the Falcon Relays at Torrey Pines on Saturday.
The Jags kept it close in both varsity contests against San Pasqual, but the Eagles prevailed 79.5–56.5 in the boys division and narrowly beat the Lady Jags 68–63 in the girls division.
Hannah Nealis led both teams with a triple win, including victories in the 200m (26.46), the 100m hurdles (15.94) and the long jump (17-feet-0).
Anthony Ricks was a double-winner for the Jaguars, taking the 100m (11.23) and the 200m (23.04) in the meet.
Meanwhile, Valley Center also had eight other individual winners and two winning relay teams.
For the boys, Bannon Greer won the 400m (50.83), Rod Rodriguez took the 1,600m (4:42.21) and Austin Paredes won the discus (135–3), while the 400m relay team of Matt Mahoney, Ricks, Jake Newman and Quentin Ferrez won (45.40) and the 1,600m relay team of Ferrez, Ricks, Mahoney and Greer also took first (3:32.17).
For the girls, Hailie Santana won the 100m (13.22), Bailey Sanders won the shot put (30–9), Angela Armstrong won the discus (85–9), Danielle Pettit won the pole vault (8–0) and Clara Padinske won the triple jump (33–8).
Valley Center was also one of 18 teams to compete in the Falcon Relays on Saturday, and the Jaguars earned one relay win and a total of 13 top-five finishes.
The team of Nealis, Cassandra Bishop, Savanna Fiehler and Delaney Cummings won the 400m shuttle hurdles race with a time of 1:12.29 for Valley Center's best finish of the day.
Then the team of Santana, Fiehler, Pettit and Bishop combined to take second overall in the 1,600m relay (4:20.69), while Sanders finished second in the shot put (31–7).
Finishing in third place was the boys 400m relay team of Ricks, Mahoney, Newman and Ferrez (45.31), the boys 800m relay team of Ricks, Newman, Rhett Reilly and Mahoney (1:35.55), the girls 400m relay team of Bishop, Santana, Cummings and Nealis (52.82), Armstrong in the shot put (30–1), Sanders in the discus (86–1) and Padinske in the triple jump (33–2.75).

Next up for the Jaguars is a meet at San Marcos on Thursday at 3:15 p.m. before the team travels to Mt. Carmel for the Sundevil Invite on Saturday at 11 a.m.
