VC track team takes to the road for dual meet at San Marcos

Valley Center's varsity track and field teams took to the road for a pair of events this week, as the Jaguars traveled to San Marcos for a dual meet last Thursday before taking part in the Mt. Carmel Invitational on Saturday.

Against San Marcos, the Jags split the varsity team results, as the girls team won 70–52 but the boys team lost 76–49.

Hannah Nealis led Valley Center with a triple win, as she finished first in the 200m (26.90), the 100m hurdles (16.26) and the long jump (16-feet-9).

The Jags also had a pair of double-winners, as Anthony Ricks took the 100m (11.44) and the 200m (22.94), while Clara Padinske won the high jump (4–10) and the triple jump (33–7).

The Jaguars had six other individual winners, as Bannon Greer won the 1,600m (4:33.63), Austin Paredes won the shot put (43–3), Hailie Santana won the 100m (13.38), Savanna Fiehler won the 400m (1:05.68), Savanna Reilly won the shot put (34–5.5) and Danielle Pettit won the pole vault (8–6).

Valley Center then joined 100 other schools in the Mt. Carmel Invitational on Saturday and the trio of Greer, Ricks and Reilly helped the Jaguars bring home a total of 12 finishes in the top 25.

Greer posted the best finish for the Jags by taking third place in the Division I 800m race, with a time of 1:55.49.

Ricks and Reilly both posted a pair of top-25 finishes, as Ricks took 12th in the Division I 200m (22.61) and 25th in the Division I 100m (11.34) and Reilly finished 11th in the Division I discus (110-feet-5) and 14th in the Division I shot put (33–8).

In Division II, Bailey Sanders brought home two finishes in the top 15, as she took eighth in the shot put (31–1) and 15th in the discus (79–7). Pettit was the top Valley Center finisher in Division II with a second-place finish in the pole vault (9–2), while Paredes took eighth in the discus (129–9), Cheyanna Phelps took ninth in the shot put (31–0) and Nealis took 14th in the long jump (15–3.5).

And in Division III, Padinske finished first in the high jump (5–1).
