VC boys tennis team beats Orange Glen

Both the singles and doubles players stepped up to help the Jags beat Orange Glen.

Valley Center's varsity boys tennis team took advantage of clutch performances from its doubles teams to down rival Orange Glen 13–5 last Tuesday.

The top two doubles teams swept their three matches, while the trio of singles players lost only three matches on the day to help the Jaguars take the big win.

Joe Stehly once again led the team with a trio of wins in first singles (6–0, 6–1, 6–1), while Billy Mayer won twice in second singles (4–6, 6–2, 6–4) and Jonathan Glassell won once in third singles (5–7, 6–3, 3–6).

The team of Fernando Ramirez and Michael Stine led the Jags in first doubles with three dominant wins (6–0, 6–1, 6–0), while Brian Morningstar and Tyus Ashworth teamed up to sweep second doubles (6–2, 6–3, 6–3). In third doubles, Michael Carvajal and Trevor Gurski played a pair of matches and won once (6–3, 4–6) before Alex Nichols joined Carvajal for the third match (4–6).

The Jags play again at home against Del Norte on Thursday at 3:15 p.m.
