A little more than two weeks ago, the Valley Center Varsity Boys Volleyball team was coming off of two consecutive losses and had fallen behind Escondido Charter 2–0 at home.

The Jaguars made some changes to their alignment on the court and cleaned up some of their unforced errors to bounce back and defeat the White Tigers 3–2 for a thrilling comeback win.

Since then, the Jags have been riding the momentum and translated it into two more match wins as they swept Orange Glen at home before battling hard for a nail-biting win on the road at San Pasqual.

Against Orange Glen at home last Wednesday, the Jaguars held on through a close match early and gained confidence throughout to cruise to a 3–0 win, with game scores of 25–20, 25–14, 25–10.

The Patriots took an early lead in game one and had the Jaguars down by as many as four points through the midway stages of the game. But Valley Center rallied and took its first lead of the contest at 19–18 before slowly pulling away to take the game win.

The Jaguars took control of the match in game two with some longer scoring runs, including a six-point run in the middle stage of the game, as they methodically built an insurmountable lead.

And in the third game, the Jags experimented with a different lineup and still rolled to the easy game win to seal the match.

Paul Schaner led the team with 16 kills, one ace and seven digs, while Daniel DeLeon added 14 kills, two aces, three blocks and eight digs, Benji Schechter had 36 assists and five digs, Luke Konyn had three aces and four digs and Andrew Nebeker had three blocks.

Then on the road at San Pasqual on Friday, the Jaguars held strong through a very close match to take a 3–2 victory, with game scores of 19–25, 25–23, 19–25, 25–22, 15–13.

DeLeon was fantastic in leading the team with 27 kills, one ace, three blocks and seven digs, while Schaner added 17 kills, two aces and 18 digs, Alex Rios had nine kills, one ace, one block and five digs, Schechter had 53 assists and eight digs, Konyn had 11 digs and Nebeker had three blocks.

Valley Center is now 4–2 overall and has already played at Escondido on Wednesday this week. Next up, the Jaguars host Ramona on Friday at 4:45 p.m.
