The Valley Center girls varsity lacrosse team was dealt a hard-fought defeat by the Del Norte High School Nighthawks on their home turf on Monday evening. The Lady Jaguars had a tough time, but never waivered in their efforts.

During the first few minutes of the first half, the Nighthawks had scored three goals against their rival Jaguars. The Jaguars rallied within the next 10 minutes by scoring two goals of their own, which were credited to Bianca Pacheco. She would later score an additional Jaguar goal with only 1:36 left in the first half followed by a goal by Savanna Fiehler with just 25.9 seconds remaining in the first half. Del Norte pushed back with a goal of their own with just 3.5 seconds left on the clock in the first half.

The second half found Del Norte executing a well coordinated offen-sive attack, which gained them an additional goal in the first two minutes. Three minutes later they would continue to score another goal. Not to be left out of the fight, Valley Center's Savanna Fiehler would score an addi-tional four goals for a game total of five before the embattled Lady Jaguars would lose to the Del Norte High School Nighthawks 8-14.

The Lady Jaguars fought back with heart, Kaylin Ryan had four draw controls, five ground ball control, one interception, and one caused turn-over. Her teammate Bianca Pacheco scored three goals, and contributed one assist and three draw controls. Not to be counted out, Parris Toate contributed 10 saves in the first half and two in the second half.

Perhaps it was some Spring Break rust, but the Lady Jags can hold their heads high that they did their best against a worthy opponent. Their standing as of now is 7-4, as they face San Dieguito Academy in Encinitas on Friday.
