Jaguars' baseball loses twice to Ramona Bulldogs
Jaguar shortstop Austin Bernard bangs one out to right field.
April 30, 2014When two great varsity high school teams meet, someone has to lose. The Valley Center Jaguars hosted the Ramona Bulldogs and suffered a defeat, only to suffer a second loss on the Bulldogs home turf. Despite the defeats the team is very upbeat and looking forward to their next game.
It's been a long season for the Jaguars Varsity Baseball team with an overall record of 14-4 and a league record of 1-4. In their first encounter with the Bulldogs on their home turf on the 24th of this month they lost 5-10. The next day, they lost to Ramona 0-3. They played a great game, but it just ddidn't seem to come together for them.
The Bulldogs have some of the best players and coaches in the league. Austin Bernard, Brad Dozier, and Domenic Antonacci are the three seniors on the team. When compared to Ramona's eight seniors this year, and a much larger student body to draw players from, it is truly amazing how well the Jaguars do. This team is not short on optimism and morale.
Coach Dan Cummings, stated that one of his teams problems is that they just haven't had any timely hits. When compared to other teams in past tournaments, the Jags held their own and have done very well. Valley Center fields a smaller team when compared to other teams it is true, but few schools can field the talent this team has.
Cummings said he is very optimistic for the rest of the season. The team has come along very well and possesses a good chemistry.
"At this point, this is exactly where we need to be," Cummings said.
The Jaguars will host a Double Header against Del Norte High school on May 5 starting at 10:30 a.m. Come on out for a day of some great baseball.
