March 13, 2013The Valley Center Republican Women will sponsor a free public community forum on gun control March 28, 6:30 p.m. at the Valley Center Community Hall.
Michael Schwartz, president of San Diego County National Rifle Assn. (NRA), will discuss ten bills currently in the state Assembly and Senate that would ban hollow-point bullets, expand the list of banned assault weapons and lead to "100 percent gun registration," according to Schwartz.
"The only reason you register guns is for taxation and confiscation," Schwartz said, "Your Second Amendment rights are about to be taken away from you."
Schwartz has been instrumental in the effort to defend the Del Mar gun shows. The letter-writing campaign on behalf of the Del Mar gun shows went "fantastically well," with several groups joining the campaign—generating about 500 letters, he said.
Joining Schwartz, Valley Center Sherriff Lt. Kelly Martinez will explain the process for obtaining a permit to carry a concealed weapon and answer questions about the process. The El Cajon Gun Exchange will have a representative at the forum with examples of assault and non-assault weapons and clarification on what makes a fire arm an assault weapon.
Linda Linker will present the NRA's program for women on instructional shooting clinics called Women On Target. This program creates more opportunities for women to learn all about firearms and gain confidence in newly-acquired shooting skills. Linker will sign up women to receive firearms training where they will learn safe firearms handling, how to store firearms safely and learn to shoot both pistols and rifles.
