The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life Returns to Bates Nut Farm June 22-23
May 28, 2013The American Cancer Society's "Relay For Life" fundraiser is back at Bates Nut Farm for another year. This fundraising relay begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 22 and continues for 24 hours.
Nineteen teams have signed up and will have members walking or running on the scenic track throughout the relay. There will be time to celebrate, remember and fight back. Relay teams are encouraged to camp out overnight, and have committed to having at least one participant on the track at all times. Food, games, silent auction and activities will provide entertainment and raise cancer awareness throughout the 24 hours. To date, 20 teams have already raised over $32,000 and expect to surpass the $50,000 raised in 2012.
"Each of us has been touched by cancer in some way or another. Relay for Life supports the efforts to beat this disease through research, and also supports those in need of resources while fighting this deadly disease," Bates Manager Sherrie Bates Ness told The Roadrunner. "I would love for you to join the Bates Nut Farm team, Nuts for the Cure, and sign up for a time to walk with us sometime during the 24 hour event." To register or to make a donation, email Mrs. Ness at firstname.lastname@example.org or go to www.relayforlife.org/
Relay highlights include the Survivors Lap at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning to celebrate cancer survivors, and the Closing Ceremony at 9 a.m. Sunday to remember the lives of those lost to cancer. On Saturday at 8:30 p.m., the Luminaria Ceremony will provide a glowing tribute to all who have been affected by cancer.
