Artists will compete in several categories spotlighting techniques such as pyrography, painting, filigree or fretwork, carving and dyeing.
Gourd decoration is an ancient tradition in Africa and Asia, as well as among indigenous peoples of the Americas. Gourd crafting and painting has evolved from early hand carvings to the modern day use of electric wood burners and high-speed rotary tools. They can be ornamental or useful. No longer just a craft, gourd art has been elevated to fine art status, finding a home in galleries and museums.
