Valley Center Library Free Summer Pops Concert July 10

July 02, 2013
She has been described as having "Dolly Parton's voice, Django Reinhardt's spirit and Debbie Harry's attitude."

Norwegian guitarist and vocalist Marjit Vinjerui, has performed to enthusiastic audiences in her home country, and on Wednesday, July 10 at 7 pm, Vinjerui, will bring her band to the Valley Center Library for a special performance, as part of the library's Summer Pops Concerts.

Vinjerui, performs folksy country tunes, jazzy and playful pop songs with a new wave rhythm. Acoustic Showcase Music Series Coordinator, Ross Moore, describes Vinjerui as an "exceptional vocalist and very strong songwriter" who has performed mostly in Norway, until she discovered San Diego.

Vinjerui's concert is presented in partnership with the San Diego County Library Acoustic Showcase, which is supported by Friends of the Library groups, including the Friends of the Valley Center Library. Moore sees the organization as "a community partnership that enriches our lives through a live performance series in San Diego, highlighting world class talent that is rooted and created in our community."

Valley Center Librarian Richard Rivera says the Summer Pops Concert series supports the San Diego County Library mission statement to inform, educate, inspire and entertain. "The Acoustic Showcase gives our branch the opportunity to bring talent from all over the county to Valley Center," Rivera added. "The showcase supports the efforts of county musicians to branch out to new audiences through the library system and their concerts, in turn, help libraries bring in excellent entertainment."

That includes Marjit Vinjerui, whose first CD, "Friendly Fools" debuted in 2010. Vinjerui, is making Acoustic Showcase performances the focus of her 2013 tour in the U.S., performing in Valley Center as well as county libraries in Fallbrook, La Mesa, 4S Ranch, Poway, El Cajon and Encinitas.

Upcoming Valley Center Library Summer Pops concerts feature: the Valley Center Symphony on Thursday, July 18, at 7 pm; Julia Boulos and Sydney Circle, Thursday Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. and the Brandon Cesmat Trio, Aug. 8 at 7 p.m.
