Annual Labor Day barbecue to benefit PMVFD
August 21, 2013The old-fashioned rural pleasures of a festival in the woods on Palomar Mountain await those who attend the 36th annual Palomar Mountain Volunteer Fire Department barbecue Saturday, Aug. 31, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Those pleasures include a pie booth, a camel from a camel diary (we are not making this up!), a paintball park, beer from the celebrated Stone Brewery, a drawing for a grand prize of $1,000, an auction, a dunking tank and a chance to throw a pie in the face of high ranking Palomar Mountain Volunteers, including the chief and a captain.
The barbecue is the major fund-raiser for the volunteer department, which has very few funding sources.
Raffle tickets are told for $5 for a chance to win the grand prize of $1,000. Tickets can be purchased at the general store, fire station and post office and observatory gift shop. For more information call 760-742-3701.
The barbecue organizers have a fundraising goal of $20,000. If they raise half that amount the captains and chiefs will paint their nails bright red, and if we get the whole thing, they will dye their hair red with Kool-aid.
KSON will provide music. Other donors include Julian Apple pies, Stone Brewery, Firefighter Turnout Bags.com, and Oasis Camel Dairy.
Palomar Mountain Fire Station is located at 21610 Crestline Road For information call 760-742-3701 or visit palomarfire.org.
