HORSESHOE TOURNAMENT—Rotary Club of Escondido After 5 presents its Second Annual Rotary "Picnic in the Park" and Horseshoe Pitching Tournament on Saturday Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Felicita Park in Escondido. All proceeds benefit local charities, including Valley High School and the Miss Escondido /Miss Teen Escondido Pageant. Cost includes lunch and one beverage (beer, soda or water). Adults $20, kids 12 and under free. Tournament entry fee is $25 per person. Trophies will be awarded. Call CJ Szytel at 760-533-7111.

PET MICROCHIPPING—With peak wildfire season fast approaching, pet owners can improve their disaster preparedness plans and even save their pets' lives for just $10 Sunday. San Diego County's Department of Animal Services is microchipping pets for $10 from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at its facility at 5480 Gaines St., San Diego. WELK THEATRE ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS—Auditions for the Welk Theatre's new show, A Welk Family Christmas, will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15th at the theatre — 8860 Lawrence Welk Drive, Escondido CA. The Welk Theatre is seeking Featured Ensemble players for the Welk Family Christmas starring Arthur Duncan, Mary Lou Metzger and Ava Barber. Producer/Joshua Carr, Co Directors/Choreographers Cheryl Baxter and Mary Lou Metzger, Musical Director/Justin Gray seeking 4 males and 4 females — strong singers who move well and dancers who sing well — tap dance a big plus. Of the eight ensemble seeking an adagio team. All ensemble players will be featured in the show. Prepare 32 bars of a standard musical or Christmas tune — accompanist provided. Be prepared to move and tap to a taught combination. Bring P/R.

SHOE DRIVE—Shoemaker Realty is happy to announce it is partnering with Valley Center Middle School in the Annual Shoe Drive. Please help raise money for the middle school PTA by dropping shoes anytime in the box in front of Shoemaker Realty's office in downtown Valley Center. Please either tie or rubber-band the shoes together and drop them in the box out front. We are trying to collect as many pairs as possible. All shoes collected will be cleaned and recycled for developing nations, and any proceeds go to educational programs at Valley Center Middle School.
