Valley Center Democratic Club to host ACA meeting

October 31, 2013
On Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 6-8 p.m., the Valley Center Democratic Club will host an informational meeting on Covered California, the state exchange arm of the Affordable Care Act, at the Valley Center Community Center. Damaris De La Torre and Linda Lopez, outreach and enrollment administrators for North Inland Neighborhood Healthcare will be giving a PowerPoint presentation on what the law entails and how it will impact citizens who need it.

Valley Center residents from both sides of the political aisle are invited to attend. Ann Quinley, president of the Valley Center Democratic Club said, "While the federal website has had difficulty, the California exchange is operating smoothly and many people are signing up for health care insurance. This presentation will help us all understand what choices are available, what cost subsidies might be expected and how we go about getting onto the website and making choices. Even for those with employer-provided health plans, the operation of the Health Care Marketplace is very interesting and should be understood."

Democratic congressional candidate, James Kimber, will also speak about his upcoming race against Duncan Hunter, Jr., and give an overview of his platform. Retired from the U.S. Navy where he served as a Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman, Kimber received more than a dozen personal awards and decorations for his service in multiple tours. During his career he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from George Washington University and later graduated from the Physician Assistant Program at Stanford University School of Medicine. Today, Kimber practices at the Southern California Institute of Neurological Surgery in Escondido, and is on the medical staff at Palomar Medical Center, Pomerado Hospital, Tri-City Medical Center and Sharp Memorial Hospital.

Betty Ball, political action chair of the Lake San Marcos Democratic Club and GO Team organizer, will briefly discuss the need for volunteers to help get out the vote for the 2014 mid-term election.

The ACA portion of the evening will be held from 7-8 p.m.

The Valley Center Democratic Club meets regularly for informational meetings, political action, community volunteering and social gatherings. Attendance is free and open to members and non-members alike.
