Valley Center Stampede Rodeo Donates $1,000 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
December 12, 2013The chutes have officially opened and the Valley Center Stampede Rodeo Committee is breaking out strong.
On Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013 the committee, along with their Valley Center Optimist Club partners, presented a $1,000 check to Melissa and Lindsey McCray on behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
In August 2013, Melissa and Lindsey learned that their beloved mother had Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Melissa says, "My twin sister and I took interest in the fundraising opportunities for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The first event we participated in was extremely successful, largely due to the generous donation from the Valley Center Stampede Rodeo Committee."
The Stampede Rodeo committee proudly wears pink shirts, donated by Armstrong Feed and Supply, to promote cancer awareness.
Stampede Rodeo Chair Joyce Holmes said the rodeo committee was honored to support the McCray sisters in their efforts to fight cancer through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). For more information on LLS, visit their website at www.lls.org.
The Valley Center Stampede Rodeo is now in its twelfth year of sponsoring quality rodeo entertainment during the Valley Center Western Days festivities each Memorial Day weekend. The Valley Center Optimist Club has teamed with the VC Stampede Rodeo committee on several occasions.
However, the 2014 rodeo season marks the beginning of their official partnership. Members of both organizations have already begun working diligently on the many tasks that need to be accomplished before next May to bring the Stampede Rodeo to Valley Center.
"Each year the rodeo is bigger and stronger," stated Joyce Holmes, "and the 2014 VC Stampede Rodeo will be no exception. The rodeo committee thanks everyone for their support."
