January 2014 Jags of the Month
January 31, 2014Whitney Wilbanks a senior at Valley Center High School, is the daughter of Phil and Laura Wilbanks, as well as the sister to Michaela and Kara. She is a member of the community service organizations, California Scholarship Federation (CSF) and National Honors Society (NHS), as well as the secretary of Key Club. In addition, Whitney is one of the vice presidents of Project You, a club on campus that specializes in promoting positive body image and boosting the self-esteem of young women.
She is a devout Christian who finds joy in attending the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) club on a weekly basis, in addition to being a student leader for her church's youth group. Whitney aspires to ultimately become an Occupational Therapist, and currently invests four hours of her week as a Palomar Hospital Pathmaker voluntary intern, which she has been involved with for the past seven months.
Her senior year classes consist of AP Economics, AP Calculus, AP Literature and Composition, ASB Leadership, and Photography. Despite her busy schedule, Whitney strives to continue to cherish the moments that remain as a Valley Center High School jaguar.
Paul Schaner is the Jag student of the month for January 2014. Paul is a senior at Valley Center High School and a well-rounded young man. Paul is the second youngest in his family of eight; he has five brothers and two sisters. His family has resided in Valley Center for the past 28 years where they have a small family farm.
Paul enjoys both the academic and athletic experience at Valley Center High School. You can ask any of his coaches or teachers; Paul always finds ways to make an assignment, practice, or game an enjoyable experience. He was the All Valley League Player of the year for water polo, while maintaining over a 4.0 GPA.
When Paul is not in his speedo, on the Soccer field, playing Volleyball, or cruising down Lilac in his '66 Chevy, you can find him helping out on his family's farm or behind their stand at the local farmer's market. Paul plans to continue his educational endeavors in college next year.
