Ugly dog contest returns to Bates Nut Farm
March 05, 2014The 19th Annual Del Mar Kiwanis Ugly Dog Contest returns to Bates Nut Farm on Sunday, March 9. This popular contest features categories for a variety of 4-legged friends – not just the ugly ones. Check-in opens at 10 a.m. and the contest starts at 11:15, rain or shine.
Dogs will compete in categories for the Cutest Puppy, Best St. Patty's Costume, Dog Who Looks Most Like its Owner, Best Trick and others. Anyone can enter their dog for a chance to win trophies, ribbons and prizes, with all proceeds going to charity. Face painting at the Torrey Pines Key Club booth, and live music from the Ugly Dog Band will make this an event that the entire family will enjoy.

Open year round, Bates Nut Farm in Valley Center is best known for their pumpkin patch and fall activities, but any time of the year is the perfect time to visit. The farm sits on 100 acres, and is surrounded by oak and mulberry trees. Visitors come from all over the world to enjoy the tranquil setting, have a picnic under the trees, feed animals at the farm zoo, and shop for nuts, candy and gifts at the two retail stores.
Bates Nut Farm is located 20 minutes east of I-15 through Escondido at 15954 Woods Valley Rd., Valley Center, CA 92082. Farm and Store hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily.
