March 2014 Jags of the Month

March 12, 2014
From kindergarten Marisa Loya has attended Valley Center schools, and twelve years later is still a proud member of the Valley Center community. She maintains a heavy workload in school with, AP Literature and Composition, AP Statistics, AP United States Government, Economics, and Choreography and Production.

At school she is also a member of CSF, NHS, HOSA, and Project You. In addition to academics, she is also a part of not only the Valley Center High School dance program, but a dancer at Georgia's School of Dance. There she is a competition team member, and attends competitions annually. She also works as the front desk receptionist at the studio, when she's not in rehearsals.

Her loving parents and sister have supported her through her many endeavors over the years, and will continue to do so as she continues to pursue dance as a hobby in college. After spending thirteen years training, she hopes to join a college dance team or program. Wherever she goes she hopes to continue dancing, while studying human biology. She aspires to become a physical or occupational therapist to be able to treat dancers. This way she will continue to keep her passion for dance an important part of her life.

Gavin Marcon is currently a senior at Valley Center High School. He has lived his entire life in Valley Center with his mother Cindy, father Greg, brother Ryan and sister Morgan. He loves to do outdoors activities with his family and friends, such as snowboarding, hiking, and playing beach volleyball.

In school, Gavin is currently enrolled in AP Statistics, AP Economics, Physics, Teachers Aid, and AP Literature and Composition. His favorite subject is mathematics, such as calculus and trigonometry. Gavin is the goalie for the high school's water polo team in the fall, the goalie for the soccer team in the winter, and a defender for the lacrosse team in the spring.

He is a member of the California Scholarship Federation club and the secretary of the National Honors Society club at the high school. Outside of school, he is actively involved in Young Life and his church. Gavin is hoping to study mechanical engineering at the University of California Santa Barbara next fall.
