V.C. Stampede gives back to kids and performing arts

Stampede Rodeo partners with VC High School Drama Club.

Many kids who would normally have dropped out of school, stay in school because of their interest in the drama club. This endeavor helps them build self-esteem and confidence by allowing them to creatively express themselves in a safe and controlled environment. Moreover, it helps them to stay involved in school by feeding their brain a healthy combination of imagination and discipline.

Drama clubs are often amongst the first affected by budget cutbacks. A local drama student, Madison Wagner, said she wanted to come up with a way to raise money for the Valley Center High School drama club. She wrote a letter to the Valley Center Rodeo Committee with an imaginative proposition. The Drama Club would sell tickets to the rodeo performances and in return, keep 20 percent of the proceeds.

With a great desire to support both the drama club and the students, the Rodeo Committee agreed. Since the Valley Center Stampede Rodeo, in partnership with the Valley Center Optimist Club, puts on the rodeo every year to support Valley Center youth activities, officials said they felt this was the perfect opportunity to showcase the beneficiaries of their efforts. All rodeo members are volunteers and work countless hours to put the rodeo on to benefit Valley Center.

Tickets to the Valley Center Stampede are now available through the Valley Center High School drama club. Contact Madelyn Wagner at (760) 749-6406
