All-breed dog show to be held at Bates Nut Farm

Over 1,000 dogs of all breeds will be at Bates Nut Farm to compete in the Cabrillo Kennel Club, AKC licensed, dog show. The event will take place July 12 and July 13, beginning at 7 a.m. both days. Classes are offered for sporting breeds, hounds, terriers, toys, non-sporting breeds, herding breeds, working breeds, and junior showmanship. Ribbons and trophies will be awarded in several categories. There will also be owner-handler competitions at the breed and group level, with the title of Best in Show Owner-Handler up for grabs.

In addition to the regular Saturday classes, an Independent Specialty Show and Puppy Sweepstakes will be offered by the South Coast Basenji Fanciers, Inc.

Dog lovers will enjoy the top-notch competition, and will also have the opportunity to look behind the scenes to watch groomers, trainers, and owners prepare their dogs for the show ring. The Valley Center Lions will serve their Pancake Breakfast both days from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Six dollars buys all-you-can-eat pancakes, bacon, sausage, and scrambled eggs. Coffee and orange juice are included. The Lions have been serving their famous breakfast for over 12 years at Bates Nut Farm, and generously donate the proceeds to local charities.

Dogs on a leash are welcome at Bates Nut Farm, however only service dogs are allowed inside the retail stores.

Open year round, Bates Nut Farm in Valley Center is best known for their pumpkin patch and fall activities, but any time of the year is the perfect time to visit. The farm sits on 100 acres, and is surrounded by oak and mulberry trees. Visitors come from all over the world to enjoy the tranquil setting, have a picnic under the trees, feed animals at the farm zoo, and shop for nuts, candy, and gifts at the two retail stores.
