HELP OFFERED

Hi Valley Center,
I've tried to email and contact the Paradise Community Services, but they must not be up and running yet with their communications (?) We look forward to getting involved in whatever we can do to help them. In the mean time, friends of ours have lost their homes and it appears there are a few other with immediate needs. Some have organized clothing drives...I'm sure they will connect with Paradise Community Services and let them know or post it here.
Some friends and I have started collecting gift cards and getting them to the Jauregui family. Gift cards are great because they can go pick out what they need specifically. So far we will be giving them directly to Thomas for his 14 brothers and sisters who lost their home...Thomas is 15 and friends with many of our kids at the high school. He will get them to his entire family out at their ranch.
Gift card ideas: Target, CostCo, Wal-Mart, Sun Diego and C28 (for the teens), Vons, Ralph's, Albertson's...you can donate cards and email your friends that live in other parts of the state and country who weren't affected by the fire to send gift cards - that is a way they can help that will give DIRECT aid to families in need.

I am calling around to find out discounts and more gift cards from businesses, also. So far:

Sun Diego will give a 30% discount to fire victims. talk to Iris or Brandon if you need help.

C28 is offering gift cards with purchase - ask for Dustin (those are good resources for teens who need back packs, t-shirts and shoes) and the sweet boy will take a minute to pray with you for the families! :-)

Target and Wal-Mart both say they are giving gift cards through the Red Cross, but I haven't heard that up and running in VC yet...I'm calling Wal-Mart back today after 10am to see where they are at on that.

If you need baby items, food, formula, diapers, clothing - all of the pregnancy resource centers are ready to help - call Alternatives in Escondido 741-9796, Poway Life Choices 858-486-1738, or Ramona 789-7059 There are also pregnancy centers all over the county - email or call me if you know people who need baby supplies in El Cajon, College Area, San Marcos, Fallbrook, Julian (as soon as they get back in) and I'll try to post a complete roster later today.

If you want to send gift cards, you can mail them to:

Just heard from The coordinator at Paradise Community Services: "At this time we are working on making a list of people so we can learn the needs of each one. (How many boys, girls, what ages,
homeless or temporary evacuees...)I'll get back to you as soon as I finish
it. I'll be at the High School today...again. "

So, we will keep raising gift cards and getting them to families in immediate need as we learn of them on this blog. If you are a family in need - please be in contact with the Paradise Community Services as they are compiling their list. Dana :-)

more info on the post:

I live in Valey Center, but the address for gift cards is for a small non-profit I work with - the mail might be a bit more consistent there for a while. If you need a tax deductible receipt for the gift cards - please include your name and address and I will mail you one. Also, please put on your gift "for the Jaureguis" or if you don't care who the gift cards go to leave it blank, we'll get some to these other families that start posting their needs on this site.

post here if you have any more ideas or have questions - and I'll check this blog often and update it is I find more businesses giving discounts or gift cards - let me know if YOU find any! And email your friends to send help!

Dana :-)

Thank you to everyone who has given gift cards! We are getting them to the family and some are mailing them directly to them - thank you!

I heard from Paradise Community Services again, Mimi has been hard at work coordinating efforts and has this to say about Target and WalMart gift cards:

"The Red Cross will start the Family Assistance Services tomorrow. Some of
them arrived tonight to set up and tomorrow they will start giving Store
cards, hotel vouchers (to the ones don't have homes to go back to) as well
as Red Cross Debit cards. That is usually what they do in every disaster.
I'll let you know more tomorrow.
Mimi"

Thank you for the gift cards that are already flowing in...we are getting them to the families as quickly as you are sending them...it helps with things like socks, underwear and such that can't really be given in a clothes drive! Also, the family says they are getting overwhelmed with clothes :-)

I received this message from Paradise Community Services reguarding gift cards from Target and WalMart,"The Red Cross will start the Family Assistance Services tomorrow. Some of
them arrived tonight to set up and tomorrow they will start giving Store
cards, hotel vouchers (to the ones don't have homes to go back to) as well
as Red Cross Debit cards. That is usually what they do in every disaster.
I'll let you know more tomorrow.
Mimi "
