NEW CASINO SECURITY CHIEF—Assistant Chief of Police Boyd Long has accepted the position as the Vice President of Security and Transportation at Valley View Casino & Hotel. The announcement comes after retirement rumors hit the press last week. Boyd has been a member of the SDPD for 28 years, and he will now take the helm as VP of Security, overseeing departments including Security, Transportation and the Players Club at Valley View Casino & Hotel beginning on Jan. 28.

“When the position became available I believed Boyd was the right person for the job and I was hopeful that he would be interested in taking on a brand new challenge,” said Joe Navarro, President and CEO of the San Pasqual Casino Development Group, Inc. “Boyd has an impeccable reputation in the law enforcement community and bringing on the Assistant Chief of one of the country’s largest and most respected law enforcement agencies was the right thing to do for the safety of our team members and guests.”

Boyd first began working for the San Diego Police Department in 1985 and has filled a variety of roles as a police officer including security operations leader at major events like the Republican National Convention, two Super Bowl games and two biotechnology Conventions. He was recognized for his leadership as an incident commander during the Witch Creek wildfires in 2007 and the landslide in La Jolla the same year.

“We are very excited to be bringing Boyd and all of his expertise to Valley View Casino,” said General Manager Bruce Howard. “Safety and security has always been our number one priority. We currently have the finest security department in the gaming industry, so getting someone with Boyd’s experience will not only help us maintain our high standards, but also enhance our safety for the future. I look forward to working side by side with him.”
