Vaqueros to host Old Timer Show on Sunday

May 15, 2013

The Valley Center Vaqueros horse club will be having their traditional horse show this Sunday at their Equestrian Park, located at 28210 Lilac Rd. in Valley Center.

Show Co-Chairs Del & Deb promise a day full of challenges and fun. There’s even a class for those with no horses. All of the classes are Open for 29 & over riders with the exception of Class 10, the Jack Benny Class that is open to 39 & over riders.

Classes are Halter Class, Showmanship, Trotting Race, Musical Hats (ball caps only!), Egg Race—Poles 1 (no horse), Keyhole, Equitation Trot Poles (no jumping), Texas Barrels, Country Pleasure—with favorite gait, and of course the Jack Benny Class—Surprise!

Each year this “Honoring Our Old Timers” is an invitation to ride at your own level, but “having fun” is required! The club’s Young Riders will be as trainees linked to all the positions required to put on a show. (After all, Old Timers are getting older by the day!) Special awards will be given to the Oldest Cowboy and Oldest Cowgirl riding in two classes, and Oldest Horse participating in one class.

Grounds open 8:00 a.m., with the First Class running at 9:30 a.m.

The cost is $5 per class and $40 for all day. This is a Members Only show, but anyone who is not a member can become one for the day for $5 and then join in the fun. A grounds fee of $15 will be charged to the day riders. Corrals are available for the day at $10 each. Questions? Call Del at 760-746-5809 or Deb at 760-525-2589.
