Food Truck Festival at Bates Nut Farm draws thousands despite the grueling August heat

The 2nd annual Food Truck Festival at Bates Nut Farm on Saturday attracted several thousand visitors who sampled the wares of 16 gourmet food trucks. The very hot August weather did not deter visitors, although many seemed to wait until sunset before arriving.

At the beginning of the event, between 1-2:30 p.m. VIP tickets to the inaugural Beer and Wine Showcase gave guests the opportunity to pair local beverages with the gourmet offerings. Community members enjoyed the beer and wine within the enclosed VIP section before wandering over to the trucks to grab the samples of each truck’s best fare. Such samples provided visitors a good way to know what they were going to go back for when they finally decided on their main course (or courses) of the day.

The organizers set a Hawaiian theme for the event (although not for the food) and many people who attended wore island garb. Providing live music for the Hawaiian them was the Hawaiian/Reggae/Soul band LoCALI grown and Hula Ramos of Energy 103.7.

One of the happy diners was Sherrie Bates Ness, seen wearing a lei and muumuu when we caught up with her a little bit after sundown. She pronounced the event, “Very successful. They’ve been running out of food and everyone has been having a great time!”

The food trucks offered fare that favored just about every flavor. One truck offered variations on “dogs” while Jacek and Tom’s Organic Food Truck tempted with Grand Lobster Mac N Cheese and a third sold ceviche. Frogs legs were a popular item at Pearson’s Cajun Food, as were the catfish and gator bites.

All in all, the day was a success, for gourmets as well as gourmet trucks.
