Greer sets the pace as boys cross-country team takes first place in South Bay Invite

Valley Center senior runner Bannon Greer put together one of the best races of the season in taking first place individually in the South Bay Invite, Friday. His effort helped the boys cross-country team finish first overall.

Greer covered the 3.1-mile course in 16:09 and helped the Jaguars outrun the other 38 teams in the event along the way.

Meanwhile, Rod Rodriguez was fourth, Fernando Ramirez was 16th, Sam McCuskey was 25th, Thomas Stehly was 36th, Nick Mendoza was 38th, and Austin Reser was 45th out of 172 runners. Bannon, Rod, and Austin all moved onto the Jag Top Ten list for their grade level.

The girls varsity team also raced well in finishing fifth overall, only eight points out of second place.

Helen Lopez was the top Jaguar in 14th, while Riley McCarrick was 19th, April Lackpour was 23rd, Delaney Cummings was 42nd, and Hailie Santana was 62nd out of 172 runners. Helen, Riley, and April moved onto the Top Ten Jag list.

The boys freshmen/sophomore team raced well in placing sixth. AJ Monzon was the top Jaguar in sixth place, while Jonathan Glassell was 15th, Daniel Zorrilla was 27th, Chris Allen was 54th, and Jonathan Baltazar was 69th out of 192 runners.

In the girls JV race Reese Henderson was the top Jag in 33rd place out of a total of 263 runners.

In the boys junior varsity race, Tyler Appolito was 13th, Charles Morningstar was 15th, and Matt Mahoney was 20th.
