Museum expands veterans exhibit

October 31, 2013

With the approach of Veterans Day on Nov. 11, the Valley Center History Museum has enhanced its already popular exhibit of military memorabilia. New to the display are documents, military medals, uniforms, photos, dog tags and citations. All highlight

onetime residents of Valley Center.

Among the items on exhibit is an original Civil War discharge certificate issued at Appomattox in 1865, plus a photo profile of 10 other local residents who served in the Civil War, including one soldier who volunteered for the Confederate Army.

Among the modern-day related conflicts is material on the Valley Center resident who was the commanding officer of the legendary

aircraft carrier, USS Valley Forge (CV-45). The museum at 29200 Cole Grade Role is open Tuesday through Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, visit or call 760-749-2993. The enhanced exhibit will become part of the permanent military display.
