The Valley Center Stampede Rodeo is looking for local young women to represent them as the 2014 Valley Center Rodeo Queen, Junior Queen and Young Miss. To be eligible to compete, you must be between the ages of 7 and 24, live in San Diego County, have good horsemanship skills and enjoy public speaking.

Contestants will be judged on horsemanship, public speaking, personality and their knowledge of Rodeo. There will be an orientation meeting on Jan. 4 at the Vaqueros Equestrian Park at 10 a.m. At the meeting girls will learn what is expected of them as contestants. During the weeks before the pageant there will be several other meetings as well to prepare contestants for the pageant, stressing especially the importance of having good horsemanship as the main focus of the competition.

The pageant will be held on April 12 at Hidden Oaks Ranch. At the pageant, contestants will be judged based on their horsemanship pattern, a written test, personal interviews, and modeling casual wear while answering an impromptu question. Finally, contestants will come back out modeling western-style evening wear and give a speech.
