Introducing those elected to serve our business community

Past president Brandon Strasbaugh from Pauma Valley insurance began his career in the insurance industry at Pauma/Valley Insurance Agency, Inc. in 2007. He is an active member of Rotary and the American Agents Alliance.

On January 20, 2012, Brandon was appointed by Ken May, president of the American Agents Alliance, to the board of directors, where he currently serves as the convention chairman today. Brandon earned his Certified Insurance Counselors “CIC” designation in August 2012 through The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research. He also completed the Commercial Lines Producer Development Program through The Hartford School of Insurance and obtained his second professional designation, Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist “CLCS” presented by The National Underwriter Company in December 2012.

He has served as an Ambassador and Vice President for the Valley Center Chamber of Commerce, and in January 2013 was elected President of the Valley Center Chamber of Commerce. In his spare time Brandon loves to snowboard and root on his two favorite sports teams, the San Diego Padres and Chargers.

President Greg Carlson was born and raised in Escondido. After high school, Dr. Carlson studied Economics and Spanish at Vanderbilt University where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998. He then spent several years in the business world before deciding to pursue a career in dentistry.

In 2008, Dr. Carlson graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Dentistry and moved with his wife and kids to Montana to work with the Indian Health Services (“IHS”). With the nearest dental specialists nearly 100 miles away, Dr. Carlson had the unique opportunity while working in Browning, Montana to undertake complex surgical cases as a general dentist and to treat children of all ages.

Once his two year commitment was complete, Dr. Carlson brought his family home to Southern California in the summer of 2010 where he joined his father and brother at Carlson Family Dentistry in Escondido. There, Dr. Carlson was able to draw from the over 50 years of combined dental experience shared by his father and brother. This allowed him to further develop his confidence and skill in both cosmetic and complex restorative dentistry.

In 2011, Dr. Carlson fulfilled his dream and opened his own practice, Valley Center Smiles in Valley Center, California. Today, Dr. Carlson is busy helping the people of Valley Center maintain good oral health, raising three kids with his wife and taking his ten year old yellow lab on long walks in the warm sun and also serving as a board member for the Rotary Club of Valley Center.

Vice President Stuart Holthaus started in construction in the 1970’s before moving into the retail industry running 7-11 stores. From there he moved then into the wholesale plumbing and irrigation industry doing deliveries and then to management of the business. In 1996 he went to work for A1 Irrigation and has enjoyed serving the Valley Center community for the past 18 years. “As a representative of the Chamber of Commerce I look forward to serving my fellow members and helping their businesses grow,” he said.

Secretary Jenn Armstrong was born and raised in San Diego and graduated in 2003 from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a degree in Animal Science and Agricultural Business Management. In 2005 she became a Valley Center resident when she married into the Armstrong Family.

In addition to Armstrong Egg Farms, in 2008 the family took over ownership of the oldest feed store in Valley Center. Today, Jennifer is busy helping out at Armstrong Feed & Supply and raising two kids with her husband Ryan. Jenn is also a member of the Rotary Club of Valley Center, and volunteers for the National MS Society and the American Cancer Society.

Readers may recognize Treasurer Moira Neibert from around town. She can often be seen working the various fund raising venues. She is the treasurer of the Valley Center Pauma Music Boosters, is on the board of directors for the Valley Center Friends of the Library and is the VC Chamber ambassador.

The Wallen Group, a management and accounting partnership founded by Moira and her husband David, was operated out of Los Angeles until Moira and her family moved to Valley Center in 2009. Moira and David still provide some services to L.A. based clients. Moira not only brings her extensive accounting and budgeting talents to the VC Chamber of Commerce but also her love for this community.

The VC Chamber will host an event for the new board of directors on Jan. 25 at the historic Melrose Ranch.
